Checking In

If you hadn't noticed, I'm a bit flighty when it comes to consistent workouts. Last week, I was all about running. What happened? My calf muscles started flaring up, making it hard to actually finish my run, not to mention walk. I'm sure it's my shoes that are causing this, but I can't afford to get fancy running shoes. I do want to go get fitted for a good pair sometime soon, but until I can afford the shoes, running is probably not going to be a viable option for me.

So, now what?

Workouts

Well, earlier this week, I thought about going back to LiveFit. I thought about restarting Rewired. I thought about just walking alongside my dad. Instead, I opted to do the 30 Minute Circuit at Planet Fitness with my mom.

I more or less like the circuit. It can get a bit dull, but it was just my mom and I there today, so it wasn't that bad.

The 30 Minute Circuit is set up in a circle, with 10 weight machines, and 10 cardio stations, which are really just step-ups. For cardio, I mostly just ran in place, but I did 2 sets of each weight machine.

Since I can't really keep up a consistent routine, my goal for the week is just to get myself INTO the gym for thirty minutes, five days a week. Hopefully do a combo of weights and cardio. That always seems to do well.

I'm currently halfway through a Meltdown Challenge that my aunt got me onto. It's similar to DietBet, where you pledge money, and if you succeed, you get money back. I did it last month, but I was totally half assing it the whole time. I'm trying to do better, but old habits die hard.

My sister and I drove out to Zorinsky Lake this morning to do a 10k (WALK). It was pouring down rain the entire time, and we were soaked to the bone. Absolute madness, but it was a good, long walk, and we did 3.93 miles, according to my Endomondo tracker.


Eating

Speaking of habits, a few years ago, my mom and I were doing the Food Lovers Fat Loss plan, which is an eating plan with a 21 day metabolism kickstart. When we did it, we were both feeling better, and my mom even had enough energy to do some walking at the Safari Park outside Omaha. It was pretty awesome. Why we didn't keep it up, we're not sure, but now we're giving it another go. I lost 3.9 lbs this week, alone! Pretty jazzed about that!

The idea is, that you add a new habit every day for 21 days. Monday, when we started, it was to eat every 2-3 hours, so your body has sufficient fuel so it knows it'll have a sufficient food supply. Yesterday, we had to make sure we were getting at least 8 glasses of water a day, and will work up to 12.

It hasn't been going badly (see nearly 4 lbs weight loss), but this week, I really want to add some veggies to my meals, and really get things going.

I'd been trying Visalus, but doing two shakes a day was too much sweet for me, and I was craving salty food like mad. My sister recently became a Visalus promoter, and while I like the product, the two shakes a day was too much for me. I do think I'll buy one bag of shake mix a month, and have a shake on my way to work in the mornings as my first meal (the FLFL plan says you should eat within 30 minutes of getting up every morning), and follow it up with oatmeal or cereal later on in the morning.

So far, so good. I think keeping this up, planning my meals, I'll do okay. At least I hope and pray that I will, because I'd really like to be to my lowest weight of 238 by vacation.
